Island Inspiration: A piece of Cayman

When I started my business, I wanted it to be something I could put my all into, as it would become part of my identity – so why not have fun with the business name?

The Silver Thatch Palm is the national tree of the Cayman Islands – my “roots”. Its strong, flexible fronds were used to weave rope, hats, and baskets that could withstand the salty sea air.

On our most recent visit to Cayman, my Dad showed me and my kids how rope was made using a rope cart. The first two photos below were taken at the The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, and the rightmost at the Rankine House at The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park.

The Silver Thatch reminds me that resilience and adaptability are beautiful things — whether you’re running a business or navigating life’s twists and turns
